Welcome to the first edition of the Generoso Trail, an amazing uphill run that will take you from the town of Mendrisio to the summit of Monte Generoso, at an altitude of 1704 metres above sea level.

A magnificent trail through the woods surrounded by the beautiful colours of autumn, offering you intense emotions.

After an initial, somewhat challenging, section on asphalt in the town, the remaining three quarters, 10km and an altitude difference of  approx. 1350m, will be run in close contact with nature. Slowly slowly, unique views will unfold before your eyes, culminating at the summit with a spectacular 360 degree view over the snow-capped Alps and Apennines, the lakes and the Po Valley.

The awards ceremony and the party will be held at Fiore di Pietra, designed by the internationally-renowned architect Mario Botta.

The race will start at 11.00 on Sunday, 20 October from Piazzale alla Valle in Mendrisio, where race bibs will be distributed from Saturday afternoon, 19 October, until 10.15 on Sunday, 20 October.

There will be entertainment in the Piazzale alla Valle on Saturday afternoon, culminating with the Generoso Trail party on Saturday evening.

There are various pay car parks in the vicinity of the departure point, but we advise you to reach Mendrisio using public transport.

Supporters and spectators can take advantage of special rates for the ascent using the Ferrovia Monte Generoso train. Trains will leave from Capolago and stop at the intermediate stations of San Nicolao and Bellavista (see specific section).

All participants from north of the Alps, as well as those from just over the border in Italy and other countries can spend the night at a hotel near the departure point (information from the organisational committee), taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the beauty, as well as the excellent wine and food of the Mendrisiotto region by arriving on Saturday night (see specific section).

Only the first 500 to enrol will be able to take part in this first edition of the Generoso Trail.

Supporters and spectators can follow the athletes along the race trail and choose the best place to watch, by taking advantage of the special rates for the train.

The race will take place in all weather conditions.

Please use caution at train line crossing points. Trains always have priority.

Also beware of vehicular traffic to and from Bellavista.
